Turkish Delight!

Ever since my Turkish delight has been on radar I have been listening to Turkish music non-stop. We have both agreed that our favorite Turkish artist is Tarkan and our favorite song is Kuzu Kuzu. In dedication to my  Turkish delight, I have decided to share our favorite song with all of you. The lyrics and translation are below.

Kuzu kuzu

Bak! Kırıldı kolum kanadım
Olmadı, tutunamadım
Zor! Yokluğun çok zor
Alışamadım
Vur, vur bu akılsız başı
Duvarlara
Taşlara vur sevabına
Sonra affet, gel bas bağrına
Süzüldüm, eridim
Sensiz olamadım
İşte kuzu kuzu geldim
Dilediğince kapandım dizlerine
Bu kez gururumu ateşe verdim
Yaktım da geldim
İster at, ister öp beni
Ama önce dinle bak gözlerime
İnan, bu defa
Anladım durumu (bil), tövbeler ettim
Ooofff ooofff
Acı biberler sür dilime dudaklarıma
İşte kuzu kuzu geldim
Dilediğince kapandım dizlerine
Bu kez gururumu ateşe verdim
Yaktım da geldim
İster at, ister öp beni
Ama önce dinle bak gözlerime
İnan, bu defa
Anladım durumu, tövbeler ettim

Like a lamb

See! I became so down and broken
It didn't go. I could not hold on.
Tough! So tough is your absence.
I couldn't get used to.
Hit! Hit this foolish head
on walls, on rocks
for a good deed.
Then forgive and come bury in your hug
I got thin. I melted off
I could not do without you
And now I came like a lamb
threw myself on your lap the way you wish
This time I set my pride on fire
I burnt it and came
Dump me if you wish, or kiss
but listen to me first, look into my eyes
Believe me this time
I realized everything, I repented
Damn damn
Rub my tongue and lips with hot pepper
And now I came like a lamb
threw myself on your lap the way you wish
this time I set my pride on fire
I burnt it and came
Dump me if you wish or kiss
but listen to me first, look into my eyes
Believe me this time
I realized everything, I repented

Tabbouleh, Tabbouleh, Tabbouleh....

... is a song about a Middle Eastern dish that has parsley and tomatoes. This song is ridiculously funny! The song is described as, "The #1 dance club song about tabbouleh". It is super catchy and it stays in your head for days. Whenever I hear the song, I randomly burst into dance.

Here's the lyrics:
Tabbouleh
Tabbouleh Tabbouleh
Makes me shake
shake shake my booty
Eat it with lots of falafal
Eat it on top of a camel

Dance.
Cuz it's the only beat
That's gonna stick in your head
and stick in your teeth

You gotta push push
Push the tush
When you eat an Arab salad
that is not fettoush

It's a hearty party
tasting yum yum
Taste that parsley
Shake your bum bum

In the club.
Don't need a shorty/cutie
All I need to take is
a bowl of tabbouleh

No we don't need hip hop
house or trance
Cuz this song about a salad
make you shake your pants

No we don't need groovy
techno techno
Just tabbouleh
in your head hole

Don't need bouncers
or velvet rope
I hope by now you
get the point

Don't need glow stick
or Red Bull vodka
You just gotta shake
where you make the kaka

First you take parsley from your sister
Chop it off like hand of shoplifter
Then take a tomato and dice it
don't forget to add all the spices

Then you take a half cup of burghul
Oh my God, it's gone taste so good
Yes this recipe is the bomb but
it tastes best when it's made by Mamma

In Lebanon
they eat it with coffee
In Libya
eat it with Quadafi

Jordan, Iraq
Bahrain, Saudi
Everybody love
the tabbouleh

In Syria
they eat it the fastest
and make sure to
shake shake Damascus

Them in Yemen
lemon the food-y
And Africa they
move move Djibouti

Tabbouleh
I hope I will finish
It to me is like
Popeye's spinach

but instead of getting
muscles in both arms
I get a moving groove
in my buttocks

Met a girl
She was a cutie
She said she'd
make me tabbouleh

But she made it
without the tomatoes
So I had to tell her
See you later

Angola

BIG BUTTS!!! That's all you see in Angolan music videos. It's like MC HAMMER^(infinity). This is not good, but it is really funny. Their music is a mix of drums, Jamaican jamming and the Latino reggaeton flavor. The beats are good but the videos are just ridiculous. The dance is called Kuduro or Kuduru. Just watch the video I found and it will explain it perfectly. This is a much more exciting pick than Andorra ;)

Andorra

For a country that is only a third of the size of Los Angeles, there isn't much variety in music. They lack the European Techno House music, and whatever that Youtube featured music that was folklore or singers from Eurovision. I deciced that the best was to represent Andorra would be by their folk music dance which is called contrapàs. There will be no lyrics for this one since it is all music. Their dance reminded me of a Maypole. I don't remember the last time I heard Maypole. Well, enjoy. (Hopefully we'll have some more luck with the next country)

Algeria

The second that I saw that Algeria was next on our list I had already decided on our next song. This one is by Cheb Khaled an Algerian that has amazing vocals and the kind of nationalism that we have not seen since WWI. I can't even remember the first time I heard this song because I was so young. I have a great and deep connection with this song, and I hope that you will to. This is Abdel Kader by Cheb Khaled.

abdelkader ya bou3alem dak el 7al 3aliya
dawi 7ali ya bou3alem sidi rouf 3aliya
sidi abderrahman dir mejhoudek wi et7azem
enta rajel kayem khadeemek dir maziya

ya dak el wali aaah allah dawi li 7ali
sidi abderahman dawi dawi dawi dawi (more)

Abdel Kader, my master, my guide
Ease my pain, make me strong
Help me through the dark night of my soul
O sweet girl of my homeland
Why is my heart so troubled
While yours is at peace?
In spite of love's many pleasures
She's turned away and left me
After a night of bliss
Abdel Kader, keeper of the keys
Keeper of my soul
I have left heaven and come back to earth
Away from her arms
I pray life is long enough to let me start over
Heal me and turn me away from my pain

Albania

Like all of Eastern Europe, Albania is very well known for their house music. But this time I wanted to find a diffident genre of music from Albania such as rap.

This song is called Te Dua by G-Bani:

Ky ttë dua
i love you
këtë mall që djeg në gji
this longing that burns to my chest
nje det nuk mund ta pij
a whole sea cannot soak it up
perendine ke
you have divinity

ëndrrat pse i le të treten
why do you let your dreams melt
pusho në krah tani
lay off all arms
harrove veten ti
you have forgotten yourself

dhe trokit në derë
knock on the door
eja dhe më merr me vete
come and take me with you
nje ditë dashuri
a day of love
vec kohen do ta ngrij…
will only cool the weather

Ndjej, ti me ndjen
i feel, that you sense me
jo, s’me genjen
no, you're not lying to me
nuk ka mister ne sy
there is no mystery in your eyes

jam une kjo nate dhe ti,
i am this night as are you
qaj si femij
i cry like a child
lutem per ty
i pray for you
u ftoh kjo dashuri
this love has gone cold
nuk ka me ngrohtesi
there is no more warmness
eshte iluzion ti kujton se mbaron,
its the illusion which you mention is ending
nje here, per here
once, for ever

se more dal nga dal
because you have begun slowly
dhe s’ke mall si per djall
and you do not have the commodeties of a guy
pa nje ‘me fal’
for one, "i'm sorry"
e fundit fjale
the last word

Afghanistan

Everything in life always begins with the letter A as in Afghanistan.

Today's song is Ghoroor by Shafiq Mureez. The video is really corny because the girl is obviously Indian not Afghan but the song is beautiful.

Here are the lyrics:
[Chorus]
Da zargi kor ba da tala kam
Da kras khaldal ba da jara kam
Ta ba spongmay sra ashna kam
Shpa di pa wikha der saba kam
Da shokha storga ba ta wakhlam khoboona
[Chorus]

How can I tie you down with the value of love?
So I can break down the pride of your beauty.
Or I can break down the tradition of pride.
I pray that your fortunes become bad
My face will lighten up
I pray that God will accept my wish
My God meet us in such a situation
That you are shouting and I hold you in my embrace
You are abusing and I calm you with kisses
So I can breakdown your pride of beauty
Or I can break down the tradition of pride.
I will make you feel in such a way
That I am dying for you
I will make you fall in love with me
Then suddenly I will go away
With stones, I will break you down the pride of your heart
[Chorus]
I will kill the feelings in your heart
That your laughing will turn to crying
I will introduce you to the moon
By keeping you awake till dawn
I will take the sleep from your beautiful eyes
[Chorus]
